Privacy Policy
What the website and the StreamXLS software collect, how we use it, and your choices.
This policy explains how StreamXLS LLC (“StreamXLS,” “we,” “us”) handles personal information in connection with (a) the website at streamxls.com (the “Site”) and (b) the StreamXLS software (the “Software”). It is the Privacy Policy referenced by, and incorporated into, the StreamXLS End User License Agreement (EULA).
The most important fact first: the Software never transmits your market data, positions, orders, account values, or spreadsheet contents to us. It processes that data locally, between your own Excel instance and the Interactive Brokers gateway you connect it to, and sends no usage analytics or behavioral telemetry. The Software transmits only the licensing and update-check data described in “The StreamXLS software” below.
The website
Information you give us. When you use the contact form, we collect the details you submit.
Release-notes list. If you sign up for release notes, we collect your email address and store it with Resend, the email provider that also delivers our contact-form messages. The list is used only to send release notes and new essays — no marketing beyond that, and we do not share it with anyone else. Every email we send includes an unsubscribe link, and you can also unsubscribe by emailing [email protected].
Mac version list. If you ask us to email you about a Mac version of StreamXLS, we store your email address with Resend, our email provider, and use it only to satisfy your request. Any email to that list will include an unsubscribe link, and you can also unsubscribe by emailing [email protected]. We delete your address if you ask, and we delete the whole list after we announce a Mac version’s release or decide not to make one.
Information collected automatically. Like most websites, our infrastructure provider records standard technical details when you visit — for example your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you request, and timestamps — to operate, secure, and troubleshoot the Site. We also keep our own record of each download from the Site, of each visit to our pricing page that carries a partner discount code, and of each click on a Buy button whether or not a partner code is involved — the page it came from, whether you arrived by a partner link or returned to the pricing page later, the partner code if any, which plan a Buy button was for, the product version on a download, your country (derived from your IP address) and device type. If you visit from a Mac, we also record each time our panel about a Mac version is shown or clicked, to gauge demand. These records never contain your IP address or any identifier for you, and we never set a cookie; they are kept for up to three months, to learn which pages and partners lead to downloads and purchases. If you arrive through a partner link, the partner code is kept only in that browser tab, until you close it, so the partner price still applies if you come back to the pricing page, and it is included in that record if you download. The tab also remembers a click on the Mac panel, so a reload does not count it twice.
Anti-spam. To slow down abuse, the Site counts requests from each IP address; each count expires within five minutes and is never logged. The contact form and the Mac version sign-up are also protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, which receives your IP address and may collect technical signals from your browser to distinguish human visitors from automated abuse. Cloudflare also uses this data to improve its own bot detection, under its Turnstile privacy addendum.
The StreamXLS software
What we never receive. The Software does not send us — and we do not receive or collect — your market data, trading or order data, positions, account values, or the contents of your spreadsheets. It contains no usage analytics or behavioral telemetry.
License activation and validation. When you activate the Software (including starting a free trial), and periodically afterward when it re-validates the license in the background, the Software contacts our licensing service (operated for us by Cryptlex), which records device and activation details — including a hardware-derived device fingerprint and other machine identifiers — together with your IP address and the approximate location derived from it. When you activate a paid license, the activation record additionally includes:
- your license key and activation status;
- the product version installed; and
- a record of your EULA acceptance, attached at activation: the EULA version and its SHA-256 hash, the acceptance timestamp, the product version at acceptance, and your Windows machine GUID (a device identifier).
We use this data to issue and validate licenses, enforce the number of activated machines your license allows, prevent fraud and abuse, keep a record of EULA assent, and provide support. It is not used for advertising or profiling.
Purchases and billing. Checkout and billing are handled by Freemius as merchant of record; Freemius collects your billing and payment details under its own privacy policy. We do not receive your full payment card number. We receive and keep your contact email and subscription details (plan, term, machine count) — your email address is also stored with the license record — and we maintain a record linking your subscription to your license so that renewals, upgrades, and cancellations are applied to the right license. Your license key is delivered to your email address.
Update checks. If update checking is enabled, the Software periodically requests an update manifest from streamxls.com. Like any web request, this discloses standard technical data (your IP address and request metadata) to our infrastructure provider’s logs. If you choose to install an offered update, the installer file is downloaded from the file host the manifest references (currently GitHub). Update checks carry no account identity and are not used to track you.
How we use information
- To respond to your inquiry and, where relevant, to help you with a trial or license.
- To provide, activate, and validate the Software and licenses you purchase.
- To operate, secure, maintain, and improve the Site and the Software’s licensing and update services.
- To comply with legal obligations and to protect our rights.
- To send you the emails you signed up for.
We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising or build advertising profiles from it.
Where the EU/UK GDPR applies, our legal bases are: performance of our contract with you (activating, validating, and supporting your license, and billing); our legitimate interests in securing the Site and our services, in preventing fraud and abuse, and in understanding how the Site is used; compliance with legal obligations (such as tax and accounting records); and, for our mailing lists, your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
Service providers
We rely on a small number of providers that process data on our behalf:
- Cloudflare — website hosting, content delivery, security, measurement, the Turnstile anti-spam check, and the infrastructure behind license provisioning and update checks.
- Cryptlex — license activation and validation; holds the activation records described above for us, under its own privacy policy.
- Freemius — checkout, billing, subscription management, and tax handling, as merchant of record.
- Resend — email delivery: the message generated when you submit the contact form, your license key after purchase, and our mailing lists, which it stores for us.
- Google — the mailboxes that receive and answer your messages.
These providers are permitted to use your information only to provide their services to us, except Freemius’s and Cloudflare’s own uses described above.
Cookies
The Site does not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies and does not run third-party analytics. Our infrastructure and anti-spam providers may set strictly necessary cookies required for security and to operate the forms.
Data retention
We keep the messages you send us for as long as needed to respond and to maintain a reasonable business record, then delete or archive them. License and activation records (including the EULA-acceptance record) are kept for the life of your license and afterward as needed for legal, accounting, and dispute-resolution purposes. Technical logs are retained for limited periods under our providers’ standard practices.
Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the use of your personal information, to receive a copy of it, or to object to certain processing — for example under the EU/UK GDPR or the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA). We do not sell or “share” personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. To make a request, email [email protected]; we will respond as required by applicable law and will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights. Note that some licensing data must be retained while your license is active for the Software to keep working, and some records we are required to keep for legal or accounting reasons. If you are in the EU or UK, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority.
Security
We maintain reasonable technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information, and we limit what the Software collects to the data its licensing and update services need to function.
International visitors
We operate from the United States. If you contact us or use the Software from outside the U.S., your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States. Where required, transfers of EU/UK personal data to or through our service providers rely on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework for certified providers, such as Cloudflare and Resend, and otherwise on Standard Contractual Clauses or an equivalent approved transfer mechanism in the providers’ terms; contact us for more information.
Children
The Site and the Software are not directed to or designed for children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
